It’s my birthday!

Every year, I consider turning off facebook for my birthday.

Don’t get me wrong—I’m a social media junkie.  I am also a huge narcissist, which probably has a lot to do with my dependence on social media.  I crave the little red numbers.  I live for them.

But the etiquette of the birthday message drives me bananas.  I always appreciate it, but more often than not I scratch my head at it—I haven’t talked to you since high school, we worked together for two months in the summer of ‘09, who are you again…?

Believe me, I practice what I preach.  The general rule is, if I don’t have a means or a will to say it to you in person, you ain’t getting a birthday wallpost.  Either that or I’m trying to make you like me

Every year I leave my facebook on, because a few of my friends write genuine and/or funny birthday posts.  Also the aforementioned narcissism.

Here’s to you, friends and acquaintances of my past and present. Let’s celebrate this nothing birthday (22!) with rituals of social media we all define differently!

Also if you’re in the Ohio State campus area, come out and celebrate with me!
